My name is Benjamin Voortmans, I’m a 20 years old designer, performer artist and creative mind behind Judassime.
Past years I got refused twice by the well-known Fashion Department of the Royal Academy of Antwerp. This did not stop me from staying in Antwerp to pursue my dream and realize my vision that is Judassime.
Today I have the pleasure to present to you my first ever collection, coming from a dark red place in time to the liberation of my mind and heart. The creative process and the inspiration behind this collection is mostly inspired by thematics close to my heart and has pushed me to explore new limits while developing exciting techniques and exploring myself at the same time.
« if we were made of meat » is my modern testament, criticizing overconsumption, mass production and above all animal abuse, which miserably have become a normalized part in our daily lives and the fashion industry.
In this collection, I envision a man’s transformation into a helpless and unknowing creature, unaware of time or perception of reality, still tormented and abused by self-entitled humans.
I would like to address my concerns about the dangers of the industry’s ignorance and how unaware we really are of the problems we’re facing. Our mind and body is intoxicated in layers of petrol, leaving us incapable of washing away the sins we’ve spawned into this cannibalistic world. I’m showcasing the romanticization and growing appetite for the destruction of our planet and our own bodies. This is seen in the «1000 Sin Spiked Suit», which is butchered like it was a cow on your favorite restaurant’s menu. Throughout the collection you will find lines that are exaggerating the bodies, shapes being elegantly abused, metal spikes and feathers jumping out of the body, just as we who are abused by the industry. We turn our bodies inside out, as our mussels and ligaments are not part of us but we are wearing them and all of that is soaked in black gasoline.
In the end, our actions will have irreversible consequences, treating us, humans, just the way we’ve treated them.
The entire collection is created using vegan fabric and materials.
